Our Employees & Our Mission
Our mission at St. Thomas is to provide high-quality healthcare regardless of a person’s ability to pay. We believe that recognizing the role of institutional racism is essential to understanding the needs of our patients and the community. Our work with the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond strengthens our commitment to becoming an antiracist organization. This month, our team continued our commitment to have all staff participate and attend the Undoing Racism training with PISAB. We were honored to have the PISAB’s Co-Founder Mr. Ronald Chisom and a dedicated team of community organizers lead our two-day training.
The purpose of this workshop is to define racism and raise awareness of the problems that stem from systems of oppression. By educating our staff about these challenges, we hope to learn from history and hold ourselves accountable to a higher standard of care. The training took place at the historic McDonogh 19 Elementary School, a landmark of the US Civil Rights Trail and home of the Tate Etienne Prevost (TEP) Center with a special visit from Leona Tate, Founder and Executive Director of the Leona Tate Foundation for Change.
