February is American Heart Month

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Louisiana. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholestorel or use tobacco, you may be at risk for cardiovascular disease. Warning signs such as chest pain, chest pressure, shortness of breath or leg swelling should not be ignored.
 
You don’t have to visit the emergency room for routine care. Make your heart health a priority this month by scheduling a visit with a heart & vascular  specialist. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

Rate of cervical cancer high among African-American women in Louisiana

When it comes to cervical cancer, new information shows African-American women are dying at a much higher rate than white women.

In Louisiana, we have one of the highest rates of death, and number of women who get the condition.

Kyvonne Winley loves New Orleans culture and second lines, of course that’s second only to the love of her six children and 11 grandchildren.  Lately there’s been heartbreak. She lost her beloved sister Faye to cancer from smoking. In a case of mistaken identity, a gunman shot her point blank in her face. It still bears the scars.
