    Do You DASH?

DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) is a flexible and balanced eating plan that helps create a heart-healthy eating style for life. The DASH eating plan is perfect for many, because it requires no special foods and instead provides daily and weekly nutritional goals. On the DASH eating plan:

    You should:

🫑 Eat vegetables, fruits, and whole grains

🐟 Include fat-free or low-fat dairy products, fish, poultry, beans, nuts, and vegetable oils

    You should limit:

🥛Foods that are high in saturated fat, such as fatty meats, full-fat dairy products, and tropical oils such as coconut, palm kernel, and palm oils

    🍦Sugar-sweetened beverages and sweets

    dashKeep Your Heart Healthy 💓

Use these three tips to keep your heart healthy!

🏃🏿‍♀️ Exercise regularly. Getting adequate physical activity can help strengthen your heart and control risk factors like high blood pressure and cholesterol.

🍽️ Eat a healthy diet. A diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats can help manage weight and reduce the risk of heart disease. Limit saturated fats, trans fats, sodium, and added sugars.

🚭 Don’t smoke. Cigarette smoking damages blood vessels and can lead to atherosclerosis. Avoiding tobacco use is one of the best things you can do for your heart. Quitting smoking, even later in life, can rapidly reduce heart disease risk.

We are pleased to announce Vilma Landeverde as St. Thomas Community Health Center’s Employee of the Month.
