As the Mumps Outbreak Spreads in Louisiana, Remain Informed of the Symptoms to Keep You and Your Family Safe

As of Wednesday, March 29, there are a total of 30 confirmed mumps cases in the state. The mumps virus is highly contagious and can be spread from one infected person to another by coughing, sneezing, or sharing food and drinks. If you think you or a loved one may have mumps, contact your St. Thomas Community Health Center provider immediately to schedule an appointment, and do your best to refrain from being around others to prevent further spread of this infectious virus.

Don’t Let Allergies Bother You this Festival Season!

Mardi Gras may be over, but more fun awaits including French Quarter Festival from April 6 – 9 and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival from April 28 – May 7.  With the arrival of Spring, allergies can cause discomfort and make it difficult to enjoy the upcoming festivities. If you suffer from seasonal allergies, make an appointment with us and we’ll help make sure allergies don’t get in the way of your fun!

Thank You to our Breast Center Supporters

Thanks to the Susan G. Komen foundation and The Louisiana Breast & Cervical Health Program‘s assistance, we are able to offer affordable, lifesaving mammograms at our Breast Center.
St. Thomas Community Health Center is excited to announce that we will soon be receiving new mammography equipment capable of 3D mammograms, a revolutionary breast cancer detection method.

Let’s Talk Depression this World Health Day

Each year on April 7th, The World Health Organization recognizes World Health Day with a subject of major importance to global health. This year’s World Health Day aims to mobilize action against depression.

Depression affects people of all ages, from all walks of life, and in all countries. It causes mental anguish and impacts people’s ability to carry out even the simplest everyday tasks, with sometimes devastating consequences. Yet, depression can be prevented and treated. If you or a loved one suffers from depression, call St. Thomas Community Health Center today to schedule an appointment with one of our mental health specialists.

Dr. Stacy Greene honored as a 2017 ‘Health Care Hero’ by New Orleans CityBusiness

Dr. Stacy Greene, Associate Medical Director and Infectious Diseases specialist at St. Thomas Community Health Center, has been recognized among other healthcare industry standouts in New Orleans CityBusiness’s 2017 Health Care Heroes. Health Care Heroes honors 50 health care professionals in the New Orleans area in six categories: animal care, first responder, nurse, physician, professional and volunteer. Honorees are selected based on industry and community involvement and achievement that have set the pace for the overall community.

Dr. Greene is recognized for his work to help bring HIV detection and PrEP – a daily medication that can reduce the risk of HIV infection by up to 99 percent – to the community. He spearheaded our We PrEP Together campaign, aimed at increasing awareness and access to PrEP among those who are most vulnerable to HIV in New Orleans. The campaign’s mission is to reduce the stigma of HIV-related health services by providing confidential and affordable care to those at risk, regardless of their socioeconomic status.
