February is American Heart Month

Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in Louisiana. If you have high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholestorel or use tobacco, you may be at risk for cardiovascular disease. Warning signs such as chest pain, chest pressure, shortness of breath or leg swelling should not be ignored.
 
You don’t have to visit the emergency room for routine care. Make your heart health a priority this month by scheduling a visit with a heart & vascular  specialist. Don’t wait until it’s too late!

Get Yah Praise On at Audubon Zoo this February 11th!

In celebration of Black History Month, Audubon Nature Institute will host the 8th Annual Get Yah Praise unnamed (5)On Saturday, February 11.
The event is a hand clapping, foot stomping good time for the entire family! The gospel music showcase will feature a soul stirring line-up of local and regional gospel performers including this year’s headliner Bishop William Murphy, III.

 

St. Thomas Community Health Center is proud to be a sponsor of this year’s event. This event is included with zoo admission and free for Audubon members.

Landry-Walker, Karr championship teams honored at City Hall 

Member’s of our St. Thomas at L.B. Landry community clinic are winning big! The City Council named unnamed (6)December 10, 2016 Algiers Champions Day in honor of the West Bank schools’ state football titles. They celebrated the state titles with a parade on Saturday, January 14 that ended at Landry-Walker High School.

New England Journal of Medicine: Health Equity Must Be a Strategic Priority

Last month, we were honored to be featured in the New England Journal of Medicine’s online publication, NEJM Catalyst. The article showcased five organizations that make health equity a core strategy, including our mission to dismantle systemic racism as a part of IHI: Institute for Healthcare Improvement‘s plan.

“The structures, policies, and norms that perpetuate race-based advantage in health care, discriminatory care practices, and implicit bias in patient and staff interactions must be explicitly identified, addressed, and dismantled.”

St. Thomas Heart & Vascular Support

We are excited to introduce the addition of Heart & Vascular support offering a full-ranunnamed (1)ge of cardiovascular services five days a week from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. New Orleans native, Dr. Arthur “Chip” Grant, was named the Director of  St. Thomas heart & vascular servicse.

Our highly specialized diagnostic and interventional care will include echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, stress testing, and ambulatory ECG monitoring.

Our patients are our number one priority, and the greatest honor is being able to help families enjoy quality health care regardless of their socioeconomic status or ability to pay.”
 
*HRSA is the Health Resources and Services Adminstration, the governmental agency responsible for funding and monitoring the quality of Federally Qualified Health Centers.
